Levi Sap Nei Thang is a true embodiment of this adage. Levi Sap Nei Thang hailed from a great family of patriots, the indigenous Chin people. She was born in Chin State, a mere 20 miles from India, and her roots run deep in this culturally rich land.

Her family, known as the pioneers of the Chin, bravely resisted the British invasion during the First World War, defending their cherished homeland and people. Many members of her family and tribe paid a high price to safeguard their land and families. Facing persecution, Levi’s family sought refuge near the Indian border, distancing themselves from ruling powers and modern politics.

In 2017, Levi Sap Nei Thang organized a poignant memorial event marking the painful centenary of her family’s immense suffering and dedicated a memorial on her people’s ancestral land to commemorate the 100th anniversary of this courageous historic milestone. This monument was erected to inspire her people and to commemorate the valiant efforts of those who paid a heavy price for their liberty. With unwavering courage, she has brought light to the story of her people, fostering unity and empowering future generations, marking a significant point of remembrance, resilience, and inspiration.

The Sovereign State of Chin remained an independent nation until the outbreak of World War 2. The world-altering conflict of World War 2 ultimately had a profound impact on the fate of Chin, forever altering its course.
